PE Teacher development plays a crucial role in shaping the quality of physical education. This term, a large number of recent Teachers Part 1, Part 2, and refresher courses were delivered all achieving 100% satisfaction rate according to evaluation forms. This achievement reflects the effectiveness of the course design, delivery, and relevance to teachers’ needs.

Recent Health and Safety advice regarding Trampoline Teaching from the Association for Physical Education (AFPE) has increased demand significantly. Both AfPE and British Gymnastics recommend that a refreshers course should be completed every three years.

Designing Courses That Meet Teacher Needs

All courses focus on practical work, updated teaching methodologies, and appropriate theory content.

Relevant Content: Course materials included GCSE case studies, real teaching scenarios, and appropriate activities that teachers could immediately apply.

By focussing the courses around teacher input and real-world application, the programs ensured that participants found the content meaningful and useful.

Continuous Feedback and Improvement

Another factor behind the 100% satisfaction rate was the commitment to continuous feedback and course improvement.

  • Regular Check-ins: During the courses, participants provided feedback on content and delivery, allowing me to adjust in real time.

  • Post-Course Evaluations: Detailed evaluation forms captured teachers’ opinions on every aspect of the course.

  • Follow-Up Support: After the courses, teachers received additional resources and opportunities for further support.

Examples of Course Impact

Teachers who completed these courses reported several positive outcomes:

  • Improved confidence in using new teaching approaches

  • Greater collaboration with colleagues inspired by peer learning during the courses

One teacher shared how the refresher course helped her overcome her nerves both as a teaching in an unfamiliar environment and also as a performer, not having trampolined at all previously.
